How to write LaTeX in Atom

LaTeX enables you to write beautiful papers, essays, or ebooks. Therefore it is no surprise that LaTeX is the standard typesetting system for scientific documents.

When it comes to LaTeX editors, there are many options. After playing around with different alternatives, Atom is unquestionably my favorite one. It’s easy to use (after everything is set up), doesn’t require a browser nor an internet connection, and looks elegant and zen at the same time.

In this article, I will go through all the necessary steps to write LaTeX in Atom.

Install TeX Live

First, we need to install TeX Live, a free software distribution that will enable us to write .tex files.

Surf to: https://www.tug.org/texlive/acquire-netinstall.html.

If you are on windows, click on “install-tl-windows.exe”. This will download the installer. Doubleclick this installer and follow the necessary steps to complete your installation.

This installation will take a while to complete.

If your current operating system is macOS, click on “MacTex Download”. This will direct you to a new page. On this page click on the “MacTeX.pkg”-button to start the installation. Follow the…
